It’s not about the door. It was never about the doors.

This post was submitted by a member of the WeAreTeachers community who wants to remain anonymous. This post also discusses schools and their victims.

Recently, a parent posted a picture on Facebook of a special door-security system, saying “all parents, teachers and PTO people should know about this.”

Our school already has them in every classroom.

I wanted to answer that maybe if more parents spend more time in our school without judging from the sidelines, they will be more aware of what is actually happening.

I wanted to tell them how my colleagues and I had to watch the footage of the Parkland shooting, which included real cellphone videos of kids screaming and shooting.

We’ve endured hours and hours of training, with some instructors trying to figure out if we’re going to have a “fight or flight” in real time, using a fake gun to shoot a few feet off our heads.

I wanted to explain how the same trainers tried to enlighten us to believe in Sandy Hook’s death, if an alternative teacher like us had been “properly trained” we could have been “prevented”.

I mean, if the people in our district had chosen to be more caring and inclusive on a daily basis instead of using our board meetings to ban books and curriculum, we probably wouldn’t be in this position.

I wanted to say that a doorkeeper supposedly “heals” but it won’t Resistance From school shooting incidents.

How to encourage more mental health awareness, hire more counselors, and adopt a restorative justice system for student behavior problems?

I wanted to say that while appreciating their posts about door guards and more heavily armed schools Them “Feel good”, ignoring all the root causes – such as the mentally disturbed people picking up military-grade weapons – Me Feeling very bad

I wanted to say these things and more, but you see, I live and work in the district where I teach. My kids are friends with their kids. My kids and my career have to pay the price for my “unpopular” opinions.

So thank you for telling me what I wanted to say here in this safe place. Thanks.
